Office for Combating Cybercrime
The Office for Combating Cyber Crime was established on 20/09/2007. Its function is regulated / governed by the Police Standing Order 3/45. The Office Telephone numbers, besides the Hotline of the citizen 1460, which is operated 24/7, are 22808200, 22808461, 22808456, 22607250-1, from 07:00 – 19:00, all days of the week.
The Office for Combating Cyber Crime is comprised of investigators, who have substantial experience in investigative issues and in the investigation of cases, along with a duty senior officer of the Police.
Moreover, in April 2009, the Forensic Lab of Electronic Data was established for the forensic examination of all electronic evidence. The Forensic Lab is comprised of Forensic Investigators who have substantial experience in Forensic investigation issues, along with a duty senior officer of the Police.
The Office investigates cases that concern internet offences and offences related to Computers, according to L. 22(III)/2004, the Law on the Convention against Cyber Crime (Ratifying) Law. The Office namely deals with cases of unlawful intervention – interference in IT systems and computer data, as well as cases of child pornography. For the purposes of educating the public and preventing crime, lectures and seminars are provided to different social groups and schools. Moreover, in 2014 the Office for Combating Cyber Crime in collaboration with other Police Departments implemented The Cybercrime Reporting Platform that is publicly accessible through the website of the Police www.police.gov.cy
